I'm a bit discouraged today. This week has not been a good one, as far as my weight loss goals. My work out buddy and I were unable to line up our schedules this week, so I didn't go to the gym. I kept trying to psych myself up to doing a work out video, but I couldn't bring myself to turn on the tv. I'm starting to realize that the idea of workout videos sounds good in theory, but actually getting up to do one by myself is a much, much more difficult task. So... besides the one measly workout while watching The Bachelorette, I haven't done much exercise this week.
I've also cheated big time with food. I did not make good choices this week... at all. I know it's alright to have one cheat day per week, but 3 or 4? Not so much...
It all started on Monday, when we went out to dinner with our friends. These particular friends have tons of points at certain casinos, so when we go out with them, we eat for free. This is a really bad idea for someone who is on a diet. Anything I want on the menu for free is like handing me $1000 and telling me I have to spend it right now. It's so easy to get out of control. I started with a fried appetizer (bad choice). Then I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich (not as bad) but I ate the whole thing, and the fries (bad). I topped off the night with a mocha Frappuccino with whipped cream (another bad choice). I considered getting the low fat mocha... but then I remembered I hate the taste of sugar free ingredients. I considered leaving off the whipped cream, but then I thought about the fact that it was a free addition, so why not? This way of thinking is really hurting me.
Tuesday morning started out okay. I had to take the car in to the dealership to get my brakes serviced, so I picked up an iced coffee with vanilla and cream (my favorite) on the way. I figured if I had to sit in the boring dealership waiting room, I deserved that treat. I figured it would only take an hour or two, but 3 hours later, I was starving! I succumbed to the temptation of a free chocolate-frosted glazed donut in the waiting room. Ugh...
Wednesday I went to lunch with my mom for her birthday. We had quesadillas and cheese crisps. Not horrible, but not great either.
Yesterday I stayed home and did great. Fruit, salad, and homemade tacos. I didn't eat anything after 7pm, and I'm proud of myself for that.
Today was the worst. I had a job today, subbing for a special ed teacher, so I went to McDonald's to get a coffee on the way. My husband had eaten all the sandwich stuff, so I also bought a sausage biscuit so I would have something to eat at school. I should have known that there would be an abundance of food at school on a Friday. The McDonald's, an apple pie, pizza, chocolate milk, and smores rounded out my day at work. Ugh. I was already disappointed in myself when I got home.
Then, to my surprise, I found out my husband went shopping today. This was really awesome of him, but unfortunately, he bought a lot of dinners that really aren't good for me anymore. We had sloppy joes for dinner, and I know that each one is like 400 calories. Add some cheese and fries and a vegetable to that. I love sloppy joes, but I really shouldn't eat them anymore. :(
So this week was a total fail. TOTAL FAIL. The good news is, I think I learned some things about myself, and tomorrow is a new day.
1. McDonald's is the devil. Really. Just the two small things I got were over 550 calories.
2. Restaurants, and going out to eat in general, is just a bad idea. The portions are too big, I don't know what ingredients are in the food, and I have no way to gauge my calories.
3. If it's in the house or free, I will eat it. For this reason, I need to have a little more self control. I also need to make sure I keep healthy meals and snacks in the house for myself at all times. One snack I have found that I love is cucumber slices. I'll either make a salad with cucumber and carrots, or just eat the cucumber by themselves. Each slice is only 1 or 2 calories, and with a little salt and pepper or balsamic vinegar, they are delicious. Cucumbers also have other benefits, like fiber.
Ranch is my favorite dressing, but I need to avoid it.
Here's hoping I can keep on track in the coming week! Now I need to just figure something out more consistent for exercising... any ideas?
Until next time,
